No. There is no code here that sends an image over the network, and results still come out offline.

Look at the button label. Save to Photos puts it in the gallery; Download sends it to the Files app first.

The result came out larger, so you got the original back. Set the goal to Email / chat attachment and it shrinks.

How does “target file size” work?

Quality is tried first; if the file is still over, the long edge steps down until it fits.

If I do not like the result, is my original changed?

No. The result is a separate new file.

How do I compress an image?

Drop the images here or pick them with Choose files. Several at once is fine.
Pick a goal. Email / chat attachment is the default; choose Target file size when the destination has a limit.
Check the size saved on each image in the result list, then download.

What if the photo will not shrink?

A phone photo has already been compressed once, so saving it again at the same size barely changes it. Set the goal to Email / chat attachment (long edge 1600) and the pixel count drops, taking the file size with it.

Which quality and format should I use?

For photos you look at on a screen, 70 to 85 percent is comfortable; for print or further editing, 90 or more. Save files you send to other people as JPEG, and images for the web as the smaller WebP.

If the destination sets a size limit, type the KB under Target file size. The long edge and quality come down together until the file fits, and a photo that never fits is marked short along with the quality it ended on.

What happens to the GPS data in my photo?

It does not survive into the result. A new file is built from the pixels instead of repackaging the original, so this is always on.
